Sources & method
Our salary explorer brings together Danish salary statistics and practical information about working in Denmark.
Salary data
Our main figures come from Statistics Denmark’s occupation statistics and regional and sector statistics. The current reference year is 2025. Monthly figures are standardised to a 37-hour working week and shown before tax.
The average combines all salaries in the group. The median is the midpoint: half earn more and half earn less. The displayed range covers the middle half of employees. Amounts are rounded to the nearest 100 DKK.
Why the additional figure can differ
Where available, the additional salary reference uses DA salary statistics published by SIRI. It shows the lower quartile: around 25% of employees in that group earn that amount or less. It is not an average, starting salary or universal minimum wage.
These figures cover DA-area employers on the private labour market, use a different pay definition and are projected to 2026-Q2. Statistics Denmark's figure combines sectors and experience levels in 2025. A DA lower quartile can therefore exceed a DST median without either being wrong. The additional reference deliberately uses nationwide figures and the selected experience range where published; otherwise, it is clearly labelled as covering all experience levels. It is salary context for all visitors, not a decision about work-permit eligibility.
Understanding your result
- Including pension includes employee and employer pension contributions and other pay components; it is not take-home pay.
- Excluding pension removes pension contributions but may still include bonuses and other pay components. It is neither basic pay nor pay after tax.
- Regional and sector averages combine occupations. They do not adjust the salary shown for your chosen job.
Your answers select practical, prewritten suggestions and a language section for your CV. They do not change Statistics Denmark’s salary figures or calculate a personal salary, job chance or approval of qualifications. Language levels are self-assessed, not certificates; A0 is our beginner label.
Practical guidance from your answers
The two result columns use stored, reviewed rules to choose practical next steps from your experience, education, languages and situation. They do not assess whether your education matches a profession, calculate a salary uplift or score your chance of getting a job. Regional STAR facts are shown only for reviewed role matches and the regions you select. There are currently 25 reviewed salary-group matches; missing coverage says nothing about demand. Different STAR roles are never combined into one assessment. No AI service receives your answers.
Example payslip
The bank payment is a worked example, not a personal tax assessment. We reconstruct gross pay from the rounded statistical amount after pension, using chosen contributions of 10% from the employer and 4% from the employee, plus separate full-time ATP. We apply 8% AM-bidrag and a chosen 38% base income-tax rate after an assumed 8,000 DKK monthly deduction. Higher-income state taxes are calculated separately. The pension mix and illustrated package are hypothetical and may differ from the source’s pension breakdown. If that breakdown is unavailable, a clearly labelled generic 35,000 DKK gross-pay example is used instead.
The 38% base rate represents a chosen combined municipal and bottom-state tax rate, excluding church tax and higher-income state taxes. The monthly deduction is a chosen tax-card equivalent, not a claim about the national average; employment and other ordinary deductions are not added again. This is not the visitor's actual withholding rate. Their real tax card may already include higher-income taxes, so these must not be added to it a second time.
For 2026, Skattestyrelsen’s state-tax bands are 7.5% above 641,200 DKK; an additional 7.5% above 777,900 DKK; an additional 5% above 2,592,700 DKK in annual personal income after AM-bidrag. Only the excess above each threshold is taxed. We annualise twelve identical regular months, without subtracting the tax-card deduction from the threshold basis, then divide the additional tax by twelve. The 44.57% tax ceiling reduces mellemskat where the base rate plus mellemskat exceeds the ceiling. With the chosen 38% base, its effective rate is 6.57%; topskat and toptopskat retain their own rates. Deduction lines are rounded upward to whole kroner.
The illustration assumes an adult with no other income, church tax, capital income, transferred allowances or special expatriate tax scheme. It does not reproduce an annual tax assessment. The holiday supplement reserved for later is not taxed on this month's example payslip. High salaries now retain their own occupational example, including the applicable state-tax bands. When the tax year needs review, the occupational net figure is suppressed and only a clearly labelled generic example remains.
The pie chart splits the illustrative package into bank payment, total tax, gross pension including ATP, and a 1% gross holiday supplement reserved for later. It assumes paid holiday plus five additional days by agreement; it does not add 12.5% holiday allowance on top. Paid days off are time off, not extra cash. Pension and reserved holiday amounts are before later taxes. Chosen assumptions are not national averages. AM-bidrag, ATP rates and holiday arrangements.
Finding your job
Search uses everyday Danish and English titles from Statistics Denmark’s DISCO index, reviewed STAR/Workindenmark titles and ESCO. A title may suggest several salary categories. Choose by the work involved; an alias does not create separate salary data. Unclear matches are held back. Student jobs and apprenticeships do not have one shared salary figure here.
This service uses the ESCO classification of the European Commission. Our search vocabulary is an adapted Danish/English selection, mapped to the salary categories available here.
